Turning Passion into Compassion
When testing and demoing our equipment here at Tractor Tools Direct, we often look for grassy city lots that need attention and then donate the harvested bales to local charitable organizations. In this way, we turn our passion for small-farm hay production into compassion for those in need.
Last August, we demoed the entire baling process with our Ibex TX 45 Drum Mower,Ibex TS130 2+2 V-Rake, and Ibex TX31 Mini Round Baler with Net Wrap on a city lot and donated the hay to Peacefield Equine Sanctuary. Peacefield is operated by Bruce and Elizabeth Lorenzen and is located in the northeastern corner of Vigo County, IN. The couple have worked for several years to rescue horses that would otherwise be sent to slaughter or abandoned. The sanctuary currently cares for nine horses and relies heavily on volunteers to carry out their mission. The mission of the rescue is as follows:
To provide health facilities, permanent care and rehabilitation services for horses that are in need of special assistance. Peacefield Equine Sanctuary, Inc. exists to care for horses that need both medical attention and/or behavioral training, with the goal of making them good equine citizens. The care of Peacefield's horses is tracked throughout their entire lives in order to ensure their permanent safety. The Sanctuary also exists to educate the public about equine care and rehabilitation, and about the politics of the abolishment of horse slaughter.
Tractor Tools Direct has been donating hay to Peacefield off and on for nearly 10 years. This summer’s donation of 40 bales came at a particularly critical time when heavy summer rains had made it necessary to keep the horses off of pasture in order to protect it.
