Sales Tax Exemption

How do I claim exemption from sales tax?

Tractor Tools Direct is required to collect sales tax from customers in certain states by default. Farm purchases are often exempt from sales tax in many states, but you must qualify to claim the exemption. States offer several different types of exemptions from sales tax, and each state is different. Check with your state’s department of revenue or your tax advisor for details.

We have links below to sales tax exemption forms for various states. If your state isn't listed, great news... we don't have to charge you sales tax!

If you qualify for a sales tax exemption, please do the following before you attempt to make a purchase:

  • Fill out a sales tax exemption claim form for your state. We have posted some forms on this page for your convenience, but please check with your state to ensure you are using the appropriate form. A Tractor Tools Direct representative can help, but they cannot offer tax advice.
  • Be sure to fill out the form completely and accurately.
  • Return the form to us by either sending an electronic copy to info@tractortoolsdirect.com, or by sending it in the mail . Our address is:

Tractor Tools Direct, 800 S 9th St, Terre Haute, IN 47807

Be sure to include a name, a good contact phone number, and an email address (if you have one) if you send us your form via mail.

These steps must be taken before we can begin your purchase transaction. Forms received after a transaction is completed will apply to future orders only.

I already submitted an exemption form to you. How do I make an exempt purchase?

Making a sales tax exempt purchase is easy. When you submit your sales tax exemption form, we look to see if you've already created an account on our website. If the account exists, we attach the exemption to that account. If it doesn't exist, we create an account for you using the primary email address on your record. If this is your situation and you've never logged into your account before, just click on "Sign In" (under the main menu button on mobile, or at the top of the screen on PC) and then click on "Forgot your Password?". Enter your email on the following screen and you'll get an email to assist with resetting your password and gaining control of your account.

Once you're logged in and move to the checkout process, you should see that your order is tax-free.

As an exempt user, be sure to log in each time you make a purchase, otherwise you will be charged sales tax. Unfortunately sales tax is not refundable. If you are exempt but accidentally make a purchase with sales tax, you may be able to claim the exemption during tax time. Check with your tax professional.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to our customer service team at 260-225-3429, option 2. We are happy to help. Thank you!
